Since I stopped making excuses and started making moves. I'm Chris "CJ" Jackson, raised in Oakland until my mom demanded safer streets and better education for her three sons. We moved to Tiburon, surrounded by beauty, luxury, and the 1%. A Black kid navigating white spaces before I even knew what code-switching meant.
Basketball wasn't just a game. It was my identity. More than that, it was my first real team. Redwood High to Wagner College. Team captain. Scoring, 8th in the nation.
That locker room. That brotherhood. That feeling of being locked in with people who had your back no matter what. The fast breaks, the "AND 1!" moments.
I made a decision that landed me in jail and cost me everything. But here's what that taught me: Failure is data. Shame is fuel. Rock bottom is a foundation you can build on.
I spent 20 years in corporate America, way to many jobs. Always chasing that team feeling, remote zoom meetings to sales floors. Hit quotas. Closed deals. Played the game. I thought I found it a few times. Then I got fired. And fired again.
"Corporate "teams" aren't built on brotherhood. They're built on numbers. And when your numbers slip, so does the love." - C
I joined The Guardsmen back in 2014 (Best Waitlist Class Ever!). It's one of the most influential groups of Bay Area men committed to mobilizing their significant talents and resources to enhance and uplift the lives of the most vulnerable, our at-risk youth. Finally, I thought. Real brotherhood again. Real mission-driven teamwork. But I couldn't afford the steep membership fees. Had to borrow money just to participate. Never paid it back. Carried that shame for years.
Lived in the same zip code as millionaires but didn't have access to the same opportunities. Eventually, the shame made me pull away from the group all together. During the third week of the new year 2026 I got "LinkedOUT" (yep you heard it here first). I literally got banned from LinkedIn for speaking my truth, heartbreak, and pain too freely.
Real brothers. We make music together. We build community together. We stand on business and show up for each other and our community. We do this, not because there's a quota to hit, but because we're locked in on the same mission.
Music became my therapy. Community became my purpose. Brotherhood became my foundation. And Show Love Stack Blessings became our mission.
The team I wish I had at 11. The team every young Black and brown at-risk youth in the Bay Area deserves
So we're building a new one. Together.
The communities with the highest percentage of at-risk youth spread across the Bay Area are still struggling. Black and brown youth are still underserved, under-resourced, under-believed. The wealth gap isn't closing. The opportunity gap isn't shrinking. The same cycles keep repeating.
I'm done waiting for someone else to fix it.
